Jesus asked this question not because He wanted or needed to know the answer. But because it was important for the disciples to become clear in themselves who He meant to them personally. Because this will affect their choice to remain with Him or not when the time gets tough. It is no coincidence that Jesus then told them about the cross that was to come.
