Treatise on the True  Devotion to Mary by St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort is considered a classic. It has been translated into over 30 languages and it has undergone over 400 editions. St. Montfort’s teachings on Mother Mary have been very much accepted by the Church and by many Popes. Montfort starts the book by giving the reasons for this devotion and then he explains the basic principles. He has differentiated True devotion to Mary from Perfect Devotion. He has defined both and he tells us that while true devotion to Mary is compulsory for all Catholics, the perfect devotion is meant for those inspired to it by the Holy Spirit. The Perfect Devotion to Mary consists in consecrating oneself completely as slaves of Jesus through the hands of Mary and in living one’s life through Mary, with Mary, in Mary and for Mary so that one does everything through Jesus, with Jesus, in Jesus and for Jesus. By this devotion we cultivate a tender love for Mary and an utter dependence on her. We must meditate upon the mysteries of Jesus and Mary especially by reciting the Holy Rosary and must imitate her virtues. The present book provides a good summary along with the insights from modern Popes and theologians.
